I am pleased to invite you to Over My Dead Body: A Collaborative Installation About Artistic Survival. Amanda Curreri, George Pfau, and Hannah Ireland, and I have created a collaborative artwork for this exhibit. Please come check out our, and other artists' take on the many different needs for creative expression, which form a connected installation loosely based on the Surrealist game of the Exquisite Corpse. OVER MY DEAD BODY: A Collaborative Installation about Artistic Survival

SAN FRANCISCO, CA- Root Division presents Over My Dead Body: A Collaborative Installation about Artistic Survival, curated by Laura Boles Faw and Hava Liberman.

What happens when you revamp the idea of an Exquisite Corpse to make a group installation that unfolds to occupy an entire gallery? Instigation, chance, and spirited play will ensue in Over My Dead Body, an installation-based, collaborative exhibition inspired by the Surrealist parlor game Exquisite Corpse, in which members of a group add to a piece without seeing what came before. The emphasis is on collaboration, and the rules dictate that the artists work in groups, focus on one of several physical and creative necessities of surviving as an artist, and must connect their work to each other in some fashion. This evolving exhibition will therefore have two phases: Phase I: Creation, in which artists view others work for the first time; and Phase II: Connection, which reveals the changes that take place as artists connect their work. In the spirit of the Surrealists, the exhibition will involve food, drink, performance, and participatory work. Artists will be available to discuss work and socialize with visitors during Artist Hours on Thursday and Friday afternoons as well as during the two receptions.

Through collaboration and the surprise inherent in the making and viewing of an exquisite corpse, Over My Dead Body will offer a contemporary take on the generative process of artists.

Root Division is an arts & arts education non-profit located in the Mission District of San Francisco. Root Division's mission is to improve appreciation and access to the visual arts by connecting personal inspiration and community participation. We provide subsidized studio space to working artists in exchange for their service in creating shared learning opportunities for the community. Artists develop creatively and professionally by teaching art to underserved youth, leading adult education classes, and producing exhibitions that showcase local emerging artwork. Southern Exposure invites you to join Mission Voices Summer youth, artists, and community partners for El Grito de la Mision, a celebration of the opening of the Mission Voices Summer 2010 exhibition, ECHO, ECHOES, ECHOED. The project is the culmination of a six-week immersive summer program that took place at SoEx. The event includes an exhibition of new work and installations, interactive performances, food, and refreshments.

ECHO, ECHOES, ECHOED, explores personal identity through the guise of the past, present and future. Throughout the summer, three collaborative projects, or acts, guide learning and art making, culminating in a three-act performance amidst an elaborate and compelling set.

About Place, with the NM Land Arts Festival

AC2 in collaboration with the For-Site Foundation presents place-based projects by graduate students from California College of the Arts (CCA). With an experimental approach to site-specific work, eight San Francisco Bay Area artists respond to the specific qualities of the Sierra Nevada foothills with fresh eyes. The projects were conceived and created on 49 acres outside of Nevada City, California. Works address the layered histories of the land from pre-mining practices through contemporary, urban ecology. Investigations were led by visiting artists Vaughn Bell, Susanne Cockrell, Richard Walker and archeologist and historian Hank Meals in negotiating individual art practices with the circumstances of time and place.
